ALASKA BACKCOUNTRY ADVENTURES
Wilderness Kayak & Hike
Hike & Paddle into the Alaska Wilderness
This exploit includes a short hike to a remote wilderness lake then multiple days of lake exploration by canoe or kayak.
Guests start by taking a short 3 mile hike to the beautiful Kontrashibuno Lake. Once at the lake the group will transition to canoes/kayaks which have been dropped off by bush plane. If more hiking is of interest the group can take to the steeper trails toward the summit of Tananial Mountain and be treated to 360 degree views of Lake Clark and Kontrashibuno Lake.
Over the next three or four days the group will paddle their way up to emerald green waters of this wilderness lake exploring the streams and lush forests along the shore. The group can take the boats all the way to the headwaters of the lake where guests can explore Gladiator Basin. This is a stunning area where the steep mountains come to meet the lake and wildlife abounds in the high crags and lush forest floor.
After exploring the upper stretches of the lake we will paddle back down and hike out of the basin and back toward Port Alsworth. You will enjoy a hearty celebration meal and a hot showers at Stonewood Lodge during your final night in Lake Clark.
