ALASKA BACKCOUNTRY ADVENTURES
Twin Lakes Exploration
Kayaking the Best of Lake Clark

DURATION: 7 days / 6 nights (custom adjustments available)
TYPE: All Inclusive Alaska Adventure
SEASON: Summer

The perfect trip for those who want to experience the best of the Alaska wilderness by kayak. If you want to have a backcountry plane supported adventure but without on the heavy backpacks then this trip was made for you.

Twin Lakes is one of the most well know areas of Lake Clark National Park for a good reason–it is amazing. The upper lake is surrounded by steep peaks on both sides with ice cold glacial waters feed into the head on the eastern most side. As the upper lake spills down into the lower lake the landscape opens up into a wide valley rich with wildlife.
This journey to the interior of the park starts a scenic bush plane drop off on the shores of the upper lakes. For the next two days we’ll explore the lake by kayak and some by foot as we take in the most dramatic scenery one could hope for. One of these days will include a welcomed visit to Dick Proenneke’s famous cabin, now a historic landmark in the park. Dick’s cabin isn’t extremely old but his story is astonishing and he recorded his 30 years of life in the cabin on both film and in a journal. Parts of the journal were made into the best selling book, One Man’s Wilderness, while the film footage was eventually made into a documentary called, Alone in the Wilderness.  A park volunteer lives by the cabin during the summer and can give you a great tour and overview of Dick’s life.
During the next few days we will travel further down and pass through the channel between the two lakes where the scenery starts to transition to the more open Alaska country.  We’ll pitch the perfect camp and hike up nearby hillsides for a panoramic of the lakes below as we comprehend how small we are in this vast wilderness surrounding.  Soon the plane will pick us back up for a return flight to the lodge where we will have one more free day to explore other areas of Lake Clark, do some trophy fishing or simply relax in the beautiful surroundings.
